No Creed but Christ, No Book but the Bible, No law but Love
Is it possible in todays world to simply be a Christian not a particular kind of Christian but merely a follower of Jesus Christ? Members of the Glen Cove Christian Church, together with more than a million other believers in 5500 churches around the USA, believe that it is. We are interdenominational and deliberately seek to focus on what unites - namely Jesus Christ, rather than on what could separate. While we have much in common with evangelical churches, we believe that qualifying terms such as "Bible Believing", "Conservative" or "Evangelical" serve to cause division within the body of Christ and so we choose not to use any of these phrases to describe ourselves. We acknowledge the work of the great reformers like Luther, Calvin, Knox and others, but do not imitate any single denomination but rather rely solely on New Testament teachings as a model for Christian worship. Our only creed is that Jesus Christ is the son of the living God and He alone is Lord and Savior. We believe that the Church belongs to Christ and that we have no authority to change the teaching, rewrite the rules or alter the membership requirements. As much as possible we imitate the New Testament precedents, which is why our baptism is by immersion, our communion is every Sunday, our leaders are called elders, our preaching is about Christ and our prayers are in Christ's name. We have no bishops, superintendents or national headquarters to determine local church policies. Each church is autonomous and consequently will vary in the way God is worshipped; but it is variety within limits, and all depend on the vivid preaching of sound doctrine from Gods word. While we seek to apply biblical truth intelligently our approach to God is not dry and intellectual and we rejoice, praise, pray, love and serve from the heart.
